Job Description – Lieutenant 

I. Scope:

This standard shall apply to any member with the rank of Lieutenant on the Vegreville Fire Department.

II. Position Summary:

Fire Department Emergency Site Foreman.

III. Duties and Responsibilities:

The Lieutenant shall:

A.   Report to the Captain of his crew.

B.    As required by a higher ranking officer, command fire fighting, rescue and dangerous goods incident tactics.

C.   In the absence of a higher ranking officer, take strategic command of any fire, rescue or dangerous goods incident.

D.   Take responsibility for the safety of all members working directly under his command.

E.    Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of a firefighter.

F.    Perform other tasks as assigned.

IV. Qualifications:

A.   Possess the minimum certifications required by the department.

B.    Minimum three years in the fire service.

C.   Possess good interpersonal skills and demonstrate leadership abilities.

D.   Appointed by Fire Chief.
