Job Description – Firefighter
I. Scope:
This standard shall apply to all members with the rank of fire fighter on the Vegreville Fire Department.
II. Position Summary:
Fight fire, perform rescue and any other related duty that will help to protect lives and property within the area of the Vegreville Fire Department’s jurisdiction.
III. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Fire Fighter shall:
A. Report to any fire department officer on the fire ground as directed, and to his crew officer off the fire ground.
B. Operate all fire department equipment and apparatus safely.
C. Have a working knowledge of basic First Aid and CPR.
D. Work as a team member in all types of emergency operations (rescue, fire suppression, etc.).
E. Respond to alarms as expediently as safety allows and abiding by the laws of the Highway Traffic Act.
F. Abide by the department’s rules of conduct and safety.
G. Report all fire safety concerns within the community.
H. Attend all meetings, drills and training possible.
I. Be familiar with the response jurisdiction.
J. Maintain conduct and appearance so as to reflect on the department in a manner promoting good relations with all concerned.
K. Promote Fire Prevention and Fire Safety whenever possible.
L. Perform other such duties as assigned.
IV. Qualifications:
A. Hold a current standard First Aid or CPR certificate or be able to obtain one in a timeline approved by the Fire Chief.
B. Be certified to the equivalent of Fire Fighter 1, Fire Fighter 2 and Pump “A” within 36 months of joining, and within 60 months of joining, obtain Fire Fighter 3.
C. Demonstrate an ability to work as a member of a team.
