Controlled Substances

I. Scope:

This standard shall apply to all members of the Vegreville Fire Department in regards to the use of a controlled substance or tobacco products.

II. Controlled Substance: 

A.   The use of alcoholic beverages, debilitating drugs or any substance that impair physical or mental capabilities while on duty is strictly prohibited.

B.    Off-duty consumption of alcohol that reflects negatively on the department is prohibited.

III. Tobacco Products:

A.   Buildings and structures owned by the department have been designated tobacco-free workplaces

B.    The use of tobacco products is not permitted inside a building or structure owned or operated by the department.

C.   The use of tobacco products is prohibited while riding in or operating any vehicle owned or operated by the department.

D.   While tobacco products may be used outside buildings and structures in smoking areas designated by the Chief, members shall properly dispose of cigarette butts and waste products.

E.    Members using smokeless tobacco products shall refrain from spitting on any department owned property used by other members, and in fountains.
